Tullahoma offers everything from aviation museums and live theater to golf, shopping and outdoor recreation. With waterfalls, lakes and state parks spread throughout southern Middle Tennessee, visitors will find activities in Coffee County for every interest and season.
Explore Aviation Heritage
The Beechcraft Heritage Museum is one of Tullahoma’s best-known attractions and among the nation’s leading museums dedicated to Beechcraft aviation history. Its origins trace back to a 1973 visit from aviation pioneer Louise Thaden, the first woman to win the Bendix Trophy Race, who agreed to donate her racing memorabilia if the Staggerwing Club established a museum. It opened the following year and has preserved Beechcraft’s legacy ever since.
Today, visitors can explore 78,000 square feet of hangars housing 38 aircraft, including Walter Beech’s first, the Model 17R. October’s annual Beech Party brings rare aircraft, formation flying, lectures and behind-the-scenes experiences to Tullahoma for four days each fall.
Tullahoma’s aviation identity extends beyond the museum. Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC), one of the world’s most advanced flight-testing facilities, has shaped the region’s aerospace industry since the end of World War II. While public access is limited, Arnold Air Force Base remains a major economic and research driver for Middle Tennessee.
The University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI) further strengthens Tullahoma’s role in aerospace engineering through research programs, graduate education and international academic collaboration.
Golfing
Golf in Tullahoma is a favorite pastime, with both public and private course options throughout the city. Arnold Golf Course at AEDC is a publicly accessible nine-hole golf course with a 24/7 driving range, tight fairways and challenging par 3s. Golf carts are available for rent, while the adjacent Albatross Café serves burgers, sandwiches and pizza.
Lakewood Golf & Country Club is a private 18-hole course with a swimming pool, full-service restaurant, bar, pro shop and driving range. Membership is required for play.
Just outside town, Bear Trace at Tims Ford State Park is one of Tennessee’s premier public golf courses. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the 18-hole course winds along the peninsula of Tims Ford Lake with rolling fairways, lake views and dramatic elevation changes.
Visitors not looking for a full round can try golf simulators at The Golffice or Ole Shew Brewing Co.
Family-Friendly Activities
Families searching for things to do with kids in Tullahoma will find plenty of indoor and outdoor activities throughout the city. Spend an afternoon playing pickleball or tennis at the Tullahoma High School courts, try axe-throwing with older kids and teens at AxeQuest or stick to a classic game of bowling at Tullahoma Bowling Lanes, where kids bowl for free in summer months.
Moviegoers can catch the latest releases at Regal Tullahoma or Montana Drive In, while Neon Alley Arcade & Bar combines retro arcade games, pub fare and a lively all-ages atmosphere. Younger visitors can also explore interactive exhibits focused on science, technology and discovery at the Hands-On Science Center.
Arts, Culture & Murals
South Jackson Performing Arts Center serves as Tullahoma’s primary cultural venue, hosting concerts, theater productions and touring performances throughout the year. Located inside a restored historic school, the venue presents everything from local productions of Broadway musicals to nationally recognized acts, making it a cornerstone of the region’s arts scene. Across the street, Tullahoma Fine Arts Center occupies the former Baillet House and showcases rotating exhibits featuring regional artists across a variety of mediums.
Public art is scattered throughout downtown Tullahoma, where more than a dozen murals have become local landmarks and favorite photo stops. Pieces like Chris Tidwell’s LEGO Man and Tara Aversa’s Bertha the Octopus add color and character throughout the city, while a mural map helps visitors explore the collection on foot.
At the north end of town, the distinctive Moai Statues created by local craftsman Steve Smith have become another recognizable roadside attraction, complete with a smaller statue kids can climb inside for photos.
