As the holiday shopping season gets underway, the Tullahoma Area Chamber of Commerce is again encouraging shoppers to “Shop Local” – and this year the campaign includes a chance for shoppers to get money back from local purchases.

Throughout December, Tullahoma shoppers can submit their receipts for local purchases to the Chamber office for a chance to win $200. Receipts from any local business, including Tullahoma franchise locations of national chains, qualify for entry.

“They are as much a part of our local community as anyone else,” said Chamber Executive Director Diane Bryant. Each Friday in December – through the 23rd – three receipts will be drawn and each winner will receive $200. A total of $2,400, provided by event sponsors, will be returned to local shoppers during the campaign.

Weekly winners will be announced on the Chamber website, in its newsletters and on its Facebook page.

But, said Bryant, “This is one of those campaigns that everybody wins.  We’re supporting our local merchants who support our community right and left.”

The Chamber, in partnership with Exchange Media Group, kicked off this year’s Shop Local event last Friday with the distribution of yard signs and Shop Local T-shirts to participating members and sponsors. Each Friday through Dec. 23, sponsors will wear their campaign T-shirts as a reminder to everyone to shop Tullahoma first.

“Shopping locally has a tremendous impact on our community,” said Tullahoma Mayor Lane Curlee. “Jobs are created, merchants depend on local customers, and sales tax generated helps pay for school and city government services.”

“This campaign really captures the essence of supporting the local businesses who have invested in our community – the businesses that support every event and fundraiser that goes on in this community – and the sense of pride that you feel by keeping your money local,” said Bryant.  “And if you turn your receipts in, there’s a chance you could get the ultimate payback and be one of the winners.”

The first drawing will be held on Friday, Dec. 2.
